Mitchelton State High School is very fortunate to have Merle Cashman on staff as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Support Officer, available Monday to Wednesday.
Merle is of the Quandamooka Nation Ngugi/Noonuccal (North Stradbroke Island) and her mothers side is of the Kunju/Clan Thipan people (North Queensland). She feels her cultural awareness comes from her mother and father and growing up in North Queensland. Merle is married with six children and can identify with the intricacies of family life. She has previously worked throughout North Queensland and at Gympie Primary School, supporting students in all areas of school life.
One of her goals at Mitchelton State High School is to bring cultural awareness to both indigenous and non indigenous students and staff and Merle actively works to bring programs into the school of cultural significance and organises our schools NAIDOC and Sorry Day events.
Feel free to contact Merle for a chat or ring the office number below to schedule a meeting.
