The role of the Guidance Officer is to assist students and their families. Guidance Officers are registered teachers and possess post graduate qualifications in counselling and career education. Guidance Officers work closely with administration, teaching staff and other student support staff to ensure the welfare needs to students are met.
Bianca Sommerville and Steve Gilmore, the Guidance Officers at Mitchelton State High School, are part of our school’s student support team and provide a direct counselling service to students, families and staff.
Guidance Officers provide counselling and advice on personal issues, resources and information about career and courses, personal development, and mental health issues. They also maintain links with and can refer students and families to outside agencies.
