Mitchelton State High School prides itself on offering opportunities for students to extend and enrich their academic studies. The Academic Excellence Program challenges students to reach their highest academic potential through the use of an innovative curriculum in an environment of like-minded high performing students. High performing teachers provide students with support to engage in the advanced curriculum and nurture students in the program. We aim to:​​​

Curriculum

Beginning in Year 7, students are streamed together for English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities so that they are to work at a pace more suited to their needs. The focus is on developing, extending and accelerating knowledge acquisition and thinking skills. The program fosters resilient students who love learning and take pride in their achievements. Throughout Junior Secondary, students remain together as a cohesive group for English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. They combine with other students in their year group for other subjects.

Selection Process

Students are initially selected for entry into the program based on their Year 6 academic performance and previous NAPLAN results. However, students attending Mitchelton State High School are eligible to be considered for entry provided they meet the program’s entry requirements. Students are required to be high performing students in the academic learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities.

Application Process

To apply for this program parents/caregivers must submit an application form along with the student’s most recent academic report card, NAPLAN report and any other academic or extracurricular support documentation. Application forms are available via the Enrolments Officer
