Mitchelton SHS offers a variety
of engaging extracurricular activities to suit all students’ interests and
needs. The extracurricular program encompasses the following aspects:
Academic Engagement
Leadership
Sporting
Cultural
Community
Not only does extracurricular
activities support engagement, it is also shown to increase school belonging
(Blomfield & Barber, 2010) as well as an opportunity for students develop
physical, intellectual, social, and emotional competencies and to form
supportive relationships with a variety of adults and peers (Larson, Hansen,
& Dworkin, 2003) /
At Mitchelton SHS we believe
that participation in extracurricular activities plays an integral role in
academic engagement and success with adolescents who participate in
extracurricular activities being more likely to be university track students
than those who did not participate in any extracurricular activity (Blomfield
& Barber, 2010)

Mitchelton SHS is able to
offer a variety of extracurricular activities. Activities will run based on
appropriate numbers of students committing to each activity. As a result, some
activities may not be able to operate and Mitchelton SHS reserves the right to
cease an activity. In the event of this happening, students and parents would
be consulted to consider alternatives.
